In this video we are going to make a Polymer Clay “doughnut” ring with an open shank. There are three videos in this project and we cover the following subjects: 1. Building a ring shank – how to size the shank, what metal to use, shaping the metal on a mandrel 2. Doming metal, creating a dimple and making a two part mold for the polymer clay doughnut. Finishing the polymer clay 3. Making a washer and riveting the ring together.
Fancy Rivets – In this video I discuss how to create different types of rivet heads. One omission: I forgot to mention - to clean up round rivets after they get smashed by riveting the back side – use a cup bur, of appropriate size, to re-round the head. This also works with copper or sterling balled wire that is less than perfect. Please see my Riveting Basics video first, if you don’t know how to rivet.
In this jewelry tutorial I will show you how to do basic riveting for jewelry.

P.S. It seems the video had some weird color balance problems so you may see the colors change around a bit. Sorry if that causes some annoyance. We will work on fixing this in future videos.
Blade sizes in jewelry
7 – The largest jewelry blade, chunky teeth 4/0 – Use on 20-24 gauge metal 8/0 – Eight Aught, the smallest toothed jewelry blade. Fine work with thin metal.
Other tips
To check what direction the teeth of your blade is going, drag you finger along the length of the blade. If you feel some resistance, that is the direction the blades face. You want the teeth of the blades to face downwards, when inserting into your saw frame.
